  • ¾ cup (150 g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (120 ml) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp vinegar)

Cream Cheese Filling

  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

1. Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350 °F (175 °C).
  • Grease or line a 9×5 inch loaf pan with parchment paper.

2. Make the Cream Cheese Swirl

  1. In a medium bowl, beat:
    • Cream cheese
    • ¼ cup sugar
    • Egg yolk
    • ½ tsp vanilla
      until smooth.
  2. Set aside.

3. Make the Banana Bread Batter

  1. In a bowl whisk:
    • Flour
    • Baking soda
    • Salt
  2. In another large bowl:
    • Cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
    • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
    • Stir in vanilla and mashed bananas.
  3. Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk to the banana mixture:
    • Begin and end with dry ingredients.
    • Mix just until combined — do not overmix.

4. Assemble the Loaf

  1. Pour half the banana batter into the prepared pan.
  2. Spoon the cream cheese mixture over the batter — spread gently.
  3. Add the remaining banana batter on top.
  4. Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese into the banana batter for a marbled effect (optional).

5. Bake

  • Bake in preheated oven 50–60 minutes, or until:
    • A toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean (avoid hitting the cream cheese swirl).
  • If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil after ~30–40 minutes.

6. Cool & Serve

  • Let cool in pan for about 15–20 minutes.
  • Transfer to a rack to cool completely before slicing.
  • Serve warm or at room temperature.
