Here’s a delicious wet burrito recipe—soft tortillas stuffed with your favorite fillings and smothered in sauce and cheese. Perfect for a comforting meal!

Wet Burrito Recipe

(Serves 4)

Ingredients

For the burrito filling:

  • 500g (1 lb) ground beef, chicken, or beans (for vegetarian)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cooked rice (optional)
  • 1 cup cooked beans (black or pinto)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese

For the sauce:

  • 1 can (400g / 14 oz) enchilada sauce or red chili sauce
  • 1/2 cup water or broth
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • Salt, to taste

For assembly:

  • 4–6 large flour tortillas
  • Extra shredded cheese
  • Sour cream, cilantro, and chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the filling:
    • Heat a skillet over medium heat.
    • Sauté onions and garlic until soft.
    • Add meat or beans and cook until done.
    • Season with cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
    • Stir in rice and 1 cup shredded cheese. Remove from heat.
  2. Make the sauce:
    • In a small saucepan, combine enchilada sauce, water/broth, and cumin.
    • Simmer 5 minutes and adjust seasoning.
  3. Assemble the burritos:
    • Warm tortillas slightly so they’re pliable.
    • Spoon filling down the center of each tortilla.
    • Fold sides over and roll tightly.
  4. Bake / Smother the burritos:
    • Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Place burritos seam-side down in a baking dish.
    • Pour sauce evenly over them.
    • Sprinkle extra cheese on top.
    • Bake 15–20 minutes until heated through and cheese is melted.
  5. Serve:
    • Top with sour cream, cilantro, and green onions.
    • Enjoy with rice, beans, or a side salad.

💡 Tips:

  • For a spicier version, add chopped jalapeños or hot sauce to the filling.
  • Use corn tortillas for a gluten-free option—soften them first in the oven or microwave.
  • Leftover wet burritos can be reheated in the oven—just cover with foil to prevent drying out.

If you want, I can give a super quick 20-minute version that uses pre-cooked chicken and canned beans—still smothered in sauce but way faster.

Do you want me to do that?
