Sausage cheese balls are a delicious, savory snack that’s perfect for parties or as a quick appetizer. Here’s a simple recipe you can try:

Sausage Cheese Balls

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (16 oz) breakfast sausage (spicy or mild, based on preference)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 ½ cups baking mix (like Bisquick)
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp onion powder (optional)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper (optional)
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Mix the Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the breakfast sausage, shredded cheese, baking mix, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix everything together until well combined. You may want to use your hands for this part to get the right consistency.
  3. Form the Balls: Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake: Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the sausage balls are golden brown and cooked through. You can check for doneness by cutting one open—there should be no pink inside.
  5. Serve: Let them cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Tips:

  • If you like a little extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of hot sauce to the mix.
  • You can freeze these before baking. Just place them on a baking sheet to freeze individually, then store in a zip-top bag. Bake from frozen at 350°F for 25-30 minutes when ready to eat.
