Southern-style potatoes

Posted on January 27, 2026 by Admin

Ohhh, now we’re talking comfort food with opinions 😄
Here’s a classic Southern-style potatoes recipe — crispy outside, soft inside, zero nonsense.

Southern-Style Potatoes

(Skillet-fried, old-school)

Ingredients

  • 4–5 potatoes (russet or Yukon gold)
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2–3 tbsp bacon grease or butter/oil
  • Salt & black pepper
  • Paprika (optional but very Southern)
  • Garlic powder (optional)

How to make them

  1. Peel or don’t — your call. Dice potatoes into small cubes.
  2. Rinse briefly, then pat very dry (this matters).
  3. Heat fat in a heavy skillet (cast iron if you have one).
  4. Add potatoes in a single layer. Don’t stir yet.
  5. Let them brown on medium heat, then flip.
  6. Add onions once potatoes start to soften.
  7. Season generously. Cook until crispy and golden.

Southern secrets

  • Don’t crowd the pan or they steam.
  • Bacon grease = flavor + crisp.
  • Finish with a lid for 2–3 minutes if you want them extra tender inside.

Serve with

  • Scrambled eggs
  • Fried eggs
  • Biscuits
  • Anything breakfast, really

Simple food done right just hits different 🥔🔥
