Ooo yes—crispy, cozy, Southern comfort food incoming 😌
Here’s a classic, no-nonsense recipe for Southern Fried Salmon Patties (aka salmon croquettes).
🐟 Southern Fried Salmon Patties
Ingredients
- 1 (14–15 oz) can salmon, drained
(remove skin & bones if you want—bones are edible though) - 1 large egg
- ½ cup finely chopped onion
- ¼ cup finely chopped bell pepper (optional but very Southern)
- ½ cup cornmeal or breadcrumbs (cornmeal = extra crunch)
- 1–2 tbsp mayonnaise (keeps them moist)
- 1 tsp yellow mustard
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
Instructions
- Mix it up
In a bowl, flake the salmon. Add egg, onion, bell pepper, mayo, mustard, cornmeal, and all seasonings.
Mix until it holds together but isn’t mushy. - Form patties
Shape into palm-size patties (about 6–8). - Heat the oil
Heat about ¼ inch of oil in a skillet over medium heat until shimmering. - Fry
Fry patties 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy. - Drain & serve
Drain on paper towels. Try not to eat one straight from the pan (or do… I won’t judge).
🔥 Southern Serving Ideas
