Posted on January 28, 2026 by Admin

Nothing beats this one 💛
Here’s a true Grandma’s Sweet Potato Pie — silky smooth, warmly spiced, and not too sweet.

Grandma’s Sweet Potato Pie

Ingredients

Pie Filling

  • 2 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 2 medium)
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup evaporated milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ cup melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground ginger (optional)
  • ¼ tsp salt

Crust

  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

  1. Cook sweet potatoes
Boil or bake sweet potatoes until fork-tender.
Peel and mash until completely smooth.
  2. Preheat oven
    Set oven to 350°F (175°C).
  3. Mix filling
In a bowl, whisk mashed sweet potatoes, sugar, evaporated milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, spices, and salt until silky.
  4. Fill pie
Pour filling into unbaked pie crust.
  5. Bake
Bake 50–55 minutes, until center is just set and slightly jiggly.
  6. Cool
Let cool completely to set before slicing.

Grandma’s Secrets 🍠

  • Bake sweet potatoes instead of boiling for deeper flavor.
  • If you want ultra-smooth filling, blend it.
  • Tastes even better the next day.

Serve plain, with whipped cream, or (if you’re Southern) a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If you want, I can give you:

  • a brown sugar or molasses version
  • a mini pie or tart version
  • or the old-school handwritten recipe style 💕
