Hamburger Steak with Gravy
Ingredients
Hamburger Steaks
- 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 works best)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
Gravy
- 2 tbsp butter or beef drippings
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Make the patties
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Shape into oval or round patties.
- Cook the steaks
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
- Cook patties 4–5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
- Remove patties and set aside.
- Make the gravy
- In the same skillet, add butter if needed.
- Sauté onions until soft and lightly caramelized (5–7 minutes).
- Sprinkle in flour and stir for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up browned bits.
- Simmer until thickened.
- Combine & simmer
- Return hamburger steaks to the skillet.
- Spoon gravy over them and simmer 5–10 minutes.
- Serve hot

Tips
