Alright, classic and comforting it is 🍝
Here’s a foolproof homemade lasagna recipe — rich, saucy, cheesy, and perfect every time.

Classic Homemade Lasagna

🕒 Time

  • Prep: 25 minutes
  • Bake: 45 minutes
  • Rest: 15 minutes
  • Serves: 6–8

🛒 Ingredients

Meat Sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (or half beef, half Italian sausage)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3–4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (24 oz / 680 g) jar marinara sauce
  • 1 (14 oz / 400 g) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Optional: pinch of sugar or red pepper flakes

Cheese Layer

  • 15 oz (425 g) ricotta cheese
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or basil
  • Pinch of salt & pepper

Pasta

  • 9–12 lasagna noodles (regular or oven-ready)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1. Make the Meat Sauce

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add onion and cook 3–4 minutes until soft.
  3. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  4. Add ground meat; cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
  5. Stir in marinara, crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, basil, oregano.
  6. Simmer uncovered 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2. Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a bowl, mix:

  • Ricotta
  • Egg
  • 1½ cups mozzarella
  • Parmesan
  • Herbs
  • Salt & pepper

Set aside.

3. Cook the Noodles

  • Boil lasagna noodles according to package directions.
  • Drain and lay flat on a towel to prevent sticking.
(Skip this step if using oven-ready noodles.)

4. Assemble

Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C.

In a 9×13-inch baking dish:

  1. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce
  2. Add noodles
  3. Spread ricotta mixture
  4. Add meat sauce
  5. Repeat layers (usually 3 layers total)
  6. Finish with sauce and remaining mozzarella on top

5. Bake

  • Cover with foil (don’t touch cheese)
  • Bake 25 minutes
  • Uncover and bake 15–20 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden

6. Rest & Serve

Let lasagna rest 15 minutes before slicing — this keeps layers perfect.

⭐ Tips for the Best Lasagna

  • Use whole-milk ricotta for creaminess
  • Don’t skip resting time
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the sauce
  • Make it a day ahead — lasagna tastes even better the next day

🔄 Easy Variations

  • Vegetarian: Swap meat for sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, and spinach
  • White Lasagna: Use béchamel or Alfredo instead of red sauce
  • Healthier: Use part-skim cheese, whole-wheat noodles, or turkey

If you want, I can:

  • Scale this for meal prep or freezing
  • Make a no-boil lazy version
  • Turn it into a one-pan skillet lasagna

Just say the word 😌
