Layered Chocolate Dessert Recipe

Ingredients (for 6–8 servings):

Chocolate Cake Layer:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water

Chocolate Mousse Layer:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz dark chocolate, chopped
  • 2 tbsp sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate Ganache Layer:

  • 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Optional Garnish:

  • Chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or berries

Instructions

  1. Make the Cake Layer:
    1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8-inch round pan.
    2. Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
    3. Add milk, oil, egg, and vanilla; mix until smooth.
    4. Stir in boiling water carefully (batter will be thin).
    5. Pour into pan and bake 25–30 minutes. Cool completely.
  2. Make the Mousse:
    1. Melt chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water or microwave.
    2. Whip heavy cream with sugar and vanilla to soft peaks.
    3. Fold melted chocolate into whipped cream gently until smooth.
  3. Make the Ganache:
    1. Heat cream until just simmering.
    2. Pour over chopped chocolate and stir until glossy and smooth.
  4. Assemble the Layers:
    1. Place cake layer at the bottom of a serving dish.
    2. Spread mousse evenly over the cake.
    3. Pour ganache on top, letting it drip slightly down the sides.
    4. Chill in fridge for at least 2 hours before serving.
  5. Garnish & Serve:
    • Sprinkle with chocolate shavings, cocoa, or berries for a fancy touch.
