Delicious Amish Cinnamon Bread Recipe: Bakery-Style Goodness at Home

Soft, buttery, and swirled with sweet cinnamon sugar, Amish Cinnamon Bread is a simple quick bread that tastes like it came straight from a country bakery. No yeast, no starter, and no complicated steps — just warm, comforting flavor in every slice.

Perfect for breakfast, gifting, or an afternoon treat with coffee.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

✔ No yeast required
✔ Simple pantry ingredients
✔ Moist, tender crumb
✔ Thick cinnamon-sugar swirl
✔ Freezer-friendly

Ingredients

For the Bread Batter:

  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Cinnamon Swirl:

  • ⅓ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

Step 2: Cream Butter & Sugar

In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 2–3 minutes).

Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Step 3: Mix Dry Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.

Step 4: Combine

Add dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
Mix just until combined — don’t overmix.

Step 5: Create the Cinnamon Swirl

Mix sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

Pour half the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
Sprinkle half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture on top.
Add remaining batter.
Finish with remaining cinnamon-sugar on top.

Use a knife to gently swirl through the batter.

Step 6: Bake

Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Optional Cinnamon Sugar Crust (Bakery-Style Touch)

Before baking, sprinkle an extra tablespoon of cinnamon sugar on top for a crisp, caramelized crust.

Storage Tips

  • Store wrapped at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • Refrigerate up to 1 week.
  • Freeze slices individually for up to 3 months.

Warm slightly before serving for best flavor.

Flavor Variations

  • Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for extra depth
  • Mix in chopped pecans
  • Add a simple powdered sugar glaze
  • Fold in diced apples for fall twist

The Result

You’ll get a soft, moist loaf with a beautiful cinnamon ribbon throughout — sweet, comforting, and perfect with coffee or tea.

If you’d like, I can also share a traditional Amish Friendship Bread version or a healthier reduced-sugar option.
