French Onion Pork Chops

Posted on March 11, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a tasty way to make French Onion Pork Chops—it combines the rich, savory flavor of French onion soup with juicy pork chops for a comforting, easy meal.

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 4 bone-in pork chops (about 1-inch thick)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)
  • 1 can (10–11 oz) French onion soup (or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ cup shredded Swiss or Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. Prep Pork Chops:
Season both sides of the pork chops with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear Chops:
Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear pork chops 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove chops and set aside.
  3. Cook Onions:
In the same skillet, add sliced onions. Sauté 5–7 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized. Add garlic and thyme, cook another 1 minute.
  4. Add Soup & Simmer:
Pour in French onion soup and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the pan. Return pork chops to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 15–20 minutes until chops are cooked through (internal temperature 145°F / 63°C).
  5. Add Cheese & Broil (Optional):
Preheat broiler. Sprinkle cheese over the pork chops and place skillet under broiler 2–3 minutes until cheese melts and bubbles.
  6. Serve:
Serve pork chops with the onion-soup mixture spooned over the top. Pairs perfectly with mashed potatoes, rice, or a crusty baguette.

If you want, I can also give a one-pan, slow-cooker version that’s even more hands-off and melts the pork chops tenderly into the French onion flavor.

Do you want me to provide that version too?
