Here’s an easy, soft no-oven pan bread you can make on the stovetop — perfect if you don’t have an oven 🍞🔥


No-Oven Pan Bread (Stovetop Bread)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon oil or melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water (not hot)

Instructions

  1. Make the dough
    In a bowl, mix flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
    Add oil and warm water gradually. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  2. Knead
    Knead for about 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    (If sticky, add a little flour.)
  3. First rise
    Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  4. Shape
    Punch down dough and shape into a round or flat disk.
  5. Second rise
    Cover and rest 15–20 minutes.
  6. Cook on pan
    Heat a thick, heavy pan on very low heat.
    Lightly grease it, place dough in pan, and cover with a lid.
  7. Slow cook
    Cook on low heat for 10–12 minutes until bottom is golden.
    Flip carefully, cover again, and cook another 8–10 minutes.
  8. Cool
    Remove and cool slightly before slicing.

Tips for Perfect Pan Bread

✔️ Use low heat so it cooks through
✔️ Keep pan covered to trap steam
✔️ Use a heavy pan for even cooking


Variations

  • Garlic bread: Add garlic powder & herbs
  • Whole wheat: Replace half the flour with wheat flour
  • Stuffed bread: Add cheese or cooked veggies before cooking

No-Yeast Option (Quick Version)

Replace yeast with:

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ cup yogurt + ¼ cup water

(No rising needed—cook immediately.)
