Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy
Ingredients
Steaks
- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- ⅓ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 egg
- 1 small onion, finely minced
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon or yellow mustard
- Salt & black pepper
Onion Gravy
- 2 tbsp butter or oil
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp onion powder (optional)
- 1–2 tbsp flour or cornstarch (for thickening)
Instructions
- Make the patties
Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire, mustard, salt, and pepper.
Shape into 4–5 oval patties. - Brown the steaks
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high.
Sear patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned. Remove and set aside. - Cook the onions
In the same skillet, add butter and onions.
Cook over medium until soft and golden (8–10 minutes). - Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions, stir 1 minute.
Slowly add broth and Worcestershire, scraping up browned bits.
Simmer until thickened. - Simmer together
Return patties to the skillet.
Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and tender.
