Steak and Shrimp Scampi

Posted on January 24, 2026 by Admin

Steak and Shrimp Scampi is an amazing surf-and-turf dish that combines tender steak with garlicky, buttery shrimp scampi—it’s the best of both worlds! The rich, savory flavors of the steak pair perfectly with the zesty, flavorful shrimp in a luscious sauce. Here’s a simple, delicious recipe to make it at home:

Steak and Shrimp Scampi Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Steak:

  • 2 ribeye steaks (or any cut you prefer, like sirloin or filet mignon)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for finishing)

For the Shrimp Scampi:

  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup dry white wine (optional, can substitute with chicken broth)
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (if not using wine)
  • 1/4 cup freshly chopped parsley
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)

For Serving:

  • Cooked pasta (like linguine or spaghetti) or mashed potatoes (optional)
  • Extra lemon wedges for garnish

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Steak:

  • Season the steaks: Generously season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper.
  • Cook the steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the olive oil. Once hot, add the steaks and sear them for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare (or adjust the time to your preferred doneness). Let them rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Finish with butter: Once the steaks are cooked, melt the butter in the same skillet and spoon it over the steaks as they rest to keep them juicy and flavorful.

2. Cook the Shrimp Scampi:

  • Cook the shrimp: In another large skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium-high heat. Once the butter is melted and bubbly, add the minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  • Add the shrimp: Toss in the shrimp and cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, until they turn pink and opaque. Be sure not to overcook them.
  • Add the liquids: Once the shrimp is cooked, add the lemon juice, white wine (or chicken broth), and chicken broth to the pan. Stir well to combine, scraping up any bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  • Finish the sauce: Let the sauce simmer for 2-3 minutes to reduce slightly, then add the red pepper flakes (if using), freshly chopped parsley, and season with salt and pepper to taste. If you like a richer sauce, sprinkle in some Parmesan cheese and stir until melted.

3. Serve the Dish:

  • Plate the steak: Slice the rested steak into thin strips or serve as whole steaks.
  • Serve the shrimp: Spoon the shrimp and garlic butter sauce over the steak or serve them on the side, alongside your choice of pasta or mashed potatoes.
  • Garnish: Garnish with extra parsley, lemon wedges, and a sprinkle of Parmesan if desired.

Tips for the Perfect Steak and Shrimp Scampi:

  • Steak doneness: Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness (120°F for rare, 130°F for medium-rare, 140°F for medium, etc.).
  • Shrimp: Don’t overcook the shrimp! They cook quickly and become rubbery if left too long in the pan. Once they turn pink and opaque, they’re done.
  • Flavor balance: Adjust the garlic, lemon, and red pepper flakes to suit your personal taste. If you want a sweeter flavor, you can add a small drizzle of honey or a touch of balsamic vinegar.
  • Serving options: If you’re serving it with pasta, a long noodle like linguine or fettuccine works well, or you can use a side of mashed potatoes or roasted veggies for a low-carb option.

This Steak and Shrimp Scampi is a luxurious meal that’s perfect for date night, a special dinner, or whenever you want to treat yourself to something indulgent. The combo of juicy steak with buttery, garlicky shrimp is absolutely irresistible!
